Pain Management

The pain management specialists combine the expertise of physicians, psychologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, social workers and nutritionists to help each individual achieve maximum comfort.

Pain Management specialists hope to reduce the adverse effects of pain in the following areas:

  • Your ability to perform normal daily activities (sleeping, eating, general care)
  • Your ability to function adequately on the job
  • Your ability to perform leisure activities

Specialists try to carry out these goals on an outpatient basis, although some people are seen in the hospital when necessary.

Common conditions treated include:

  • Persistent back or neck pain
  • Headache
  • Shingles
  • Leg or arm pain
  • Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD)
  • Work-related injuries
  • Pain related to diabetes, vascular disease or post-surgical neuropathy
  • Multiple Sclerosis, stroke or cerebral palsy
  • Myofascial Pain Syndrome
  • Cancer pain
  • Abdominal or pelvic pain

Treatments used to manage pain include:

  • Injections of local anesthetics and cortisone
  • Nerve blocks
  • Medication management
  • Behavior therapy
  • Cryoanalgesia (nerve freezing)
  • Nerve stimulation
